Haytham Nawar – Vernacular type design for Arabic speaking countries

From the American University in Cairo comes Haytham Nawar: Artist, designer, researcher, Co-Founder/Director of »Di-Egy Fest 0.1« The First Digital Arts Festival in Egypt – just to mention a few of his activities. Haytham Nawar offers us a new perspective on Arabic type design.

He presents students’ works, with often new and partly experimental approaches. There is a growing critical reflection of the reality that this area is characterized by a vernacular culture.

»There is a growing necessity within the educational systems in the Arab world to create experimental labs and pedagogical methodologies that allow for the creation and development of Arabic fonts.« An amazing presentation of new Arabic typefaces!
